Conflict Solutions for Tillamook County is active in providing mediation services to the Tillamook County Justice Court. Nearly 500 litigants have experienced mediation, and we are hopeful to increase that number, and to change the culture of conflict resolution in the courts.

Twenty five local citizens have received mediation training and about half of those have completed their court mediation observations and are now meet state requirements for mediators. We hope to have another training session this spring.

The peer mediation program, which trains teens to mediate disputes in junior and senior high school, is now active in all three county school districts. A training in October, 2009 attracted over forty enthusiastic local students.

Artis Van RasselFunds raised in memory of our founder, Artis Van Rassel, have been allocated to sponsor local junior and senior high students who attended a statewide peer mediation conference in Portland. Over 20 local students from Tillamook and Neah-Kah-Nie schools attended the conference, where they interacted with other youths, received training in mediation and conflict resolution, and also received the first statewide award for excellence in peer mediation. The award, appropriately named the Artis Van Rassel Award, will be an annual award of merit for the Oregon Mediation Association.

We are beginning to offer "neighbor to neighbor" mediation services and we are developing a healthy working relationship with Sheriff Anderson and his department to offer an alternative, long term solution to community conflicts.
